SCOTT ELLSWORTH

MANAGING PARTNER

 

Scott received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a focus on Political Science and Economics. Scott earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1976 from the University of New Brunswick where he served as editor-in-chief of the UNB Law Journal and was awarded the Harrison Shield during his final year of study.

 

Scott has lectured in the civil litigation section of the Law Society of New Brunswick's Bar Admission Course, has been a guest lecturer at the Atlantic Justice Institute, and is a former Standing Agent of the federal Departments of Justice and of the Solicitor-General for specified public prosecutions. He has distinguished himself in the litigation and business advisory aspects of his practice, and was named Queen's Counsel in 2003.

 

A member of the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Canadian Bar Association, Scott is also a past President of the Moncton Kinsmen Club and a founding chairman of Moncton Kinsmen Charities, a registered charitable organization which contributed millions of dollars to worthy causes in Southeastern New Brunswick. He is a past President of the Moncton Central Business Development Corporation, and was instrumental in facilitating the Main Street revitalization initiatives co-operatively funded by the Governments of New Brunswick and Canada. He has served as a Director of the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce and other community groups, and has participated actively in a number of charitable and fraternal organizations.

BRUCE JOHNSON

SENIOR PARTNER

Bruce Johnson is the senior partner of Ellsworth Johnson & Partners and has been practicing law since 1973 when he was called to the New Brunswick bar. Bruce is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton where he completed his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1969, and his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1973. He has lectured at the Law Society of New Brunswick's Bar Admission Course and Continuing Legal Education Courses. Bruce has established himself in the corporate, commercial and insolvency fields.

 

He has advised business organizations, shareholders, directors and officers upon organizational, governance, financing, contractual, succession planning, and dissolution issues. Bruce has also carved out a niche in the bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring field, acting as counsel for trustees and receivers, debtors and creditors under the restructuring provisions of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act.

 

A member of the Moncton Area Lawyers Association, the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Canadian Bar Association, Bruce is also involved in various community affairs. He is a past President of the Moncton Boys and Girls Club, a past President of his Community Association, has served as a Director of several Moncton area tennis clubs, and is a nationally recognized wine expert.

Patricia LeBlanc-Bird has been practicing law since 1983 when she was called to the New Brunswick bar, and has been an associate of the firm since 1990. Patricia was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, and is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980, concentrating her studies in the field of Political Science, and earned her Bachelor of Laws degree in 1982.

 

Patricia has been a lecturer for the Business Law class at Crandall University and has provided seminars to community groups and business organizations on topics of current interest.

Patricia has extensive experience in the areas of personal injury and insurance claims. Her preferred areas of practice include estate planning matters, real estate transactions and family issues. Patricia is a proponent of the collaborative law movement and is a certified practitioner of collaborative family law.

A member of the Moncton Area Lawyers Association, the Law Society of New Brunswick, and the Canadian Bar Association, Patricia was appointed to a seat as Commissioner on the New Brunswick Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities in 2004. Patricia is also a member of the Christian Legal Fellowship, past President of Greater Moncton United Way and past Committee Chairperson with the Moncton Business and Professional Women's Club. She is an active member of the Greater Moncton YMCA, and has served on the Moncton YMCA Building Campaign Committee.

An associate with Ellsworth Johnson & Partners, Jeff is a native to Moncton. He completed his post-secondary education in Halifax Nova Scotia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree (B.Comm) from Dalhousie University, as well as a Juris Doctor degree (JD) from Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law.
 
Jeff completed his articles with Ellsworth Johnson & Partners and was called to the New Brunswick Bar in 2014. He is a member of the Moncton Area Lawyers Association, the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Canadian Bar Association.
 
Jeff has experience in a broad array of practices areas, and focusses primarily in the areas of corporate and commercial law, restructuring & insolvency, civil litigation and criminal law.

MORGAN KAVAN

ASSOCIATE

Morgan Kavanagh is originally from Ontario. She completed her Juris Doctor at the University of New Brunswick and will be admitted to the Law Society of New Brunswick in 2021. Before studying the law, she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Mount Allison University, majoring in History with a minor in Drama. 


After graduating with her law degree, Morgan began articling at Ellsworth Johnson & Partners. Articling at Ellsworth Johnson & Partners has given Morgan experience in a broad array of practice areas. Morgan hopes to focus on the areas of Criminal Law, Family Law, Civil Litigation, and Wills and Estates once admitted to the Law Society of New Brunswick. 
 

Morgan spends her free time volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Moncton, reading, playing disc golf, and walking with her dogs. 
 

The legal system can be complex and stressful. It is Morgan’s goal to help those who come into her office feel comfortable and supported as they navigate the legal system together.

OFFICE MANAGER

Ellen Steeves-Allen joined the firm over thirty years ago as a Legal Assistant, but her natural business and marketing sense found their application as she took over the responsibility of general management of the firm.

 

Throughout her career, Ellen has made it a priority to continue to upgrade her skills and keep abreast of the latest in law firm management techniques. Her legal and management education and experience has equipped her to oversee the firm’s technology, human resources, financial and facilities management.
